Deep Purple
In the car Liam asked for me to turn to Smoke on the Water. He was convinced if I flipped stations it’d be on. Makes me proud.

“But meanwhile, we’ll be working hard to make more enemies, by making the status quo very uncomfortable. Nice was for the 90s. CHANGE was the promise for today.”

The Most Dangerous Person in the World? →
This is nothing Bruce Schneier hasn’t said a million times, nor is it anything but reasonable and sensible but still the majority of us could learn a lot from it. Spending pretty much any time worrying about terrorists is not only a waste but probably actively dangerous by diverting your attention from problems that are far more likely.
This is what drives me nuts about people who...
Please feed the meters →
My wife will sometimes pay for the person behind her on the tollway. That’s friendly and cool. Some are applying that strategy to Chicago’s ridiculous-enough-to-deserve it contractor who runs the parking meters now to be not only friendly but deprive them of ticket revenue from violations.
I have to respect that.

NY Times Warns of Financial Ramifications →
Thank you congress. If Change Congress http://change-congress.org/ had finished the work it is just now starting we wouldn’t be in this financial mess.

This is awesome and exactly what I need. How did I not know about this earlier?
Dreams of my child
Donna took the boys to Trader Joe’s today, and they got a balloon to share. Somehow they decided on the way back home that Liam should let it go outside and they could watch. As I’m getting him out of the car, he explains he’s going to let the balloon fly way up high in the sky…”to God”. I was a bit surprised by that, but ok that’s cool. So out he...

Those days
You know those days when you have to work and at the same time you have to help take care of your two toddlers for about 5 of the 8 work hours, then your wife goes to work and you have to get both kids down for naps and one of them has a cold and then after feeding them dinner you get them both in bed and manage to get out of the room with the 1 year old to laying down quietly and then the 2 year...

Patch Check Advanced is awesome and if you ever have to patch a Sun box it is the only way to go. I could go on and on but won’t waste your time, just try it.>
Shaving
The cheap handles + expensive blades philosophy of the shaving industry is very annoyingly expensive. Additionally, shaving cream and most shaving gels generally don’t work well. They suffice, but that is all. I stumbled upon something better though. King of Shaves Alphagel shave gel works really, really well. It sells at a competitive price and it goes a long way. It doesn’t really...

Posterous test # 2
Testing integration with other sites like Flickr. Except I don’t have a picture handy….hmm…ok here is a generic Chicago picture I happen to have handy. Posted via email from Z Side | Comment »
Test email post
Posterous reminded me that I should try posting via email. It seems less exciting but much more natural. And, it auto-saves!
Sick
We had a family birthday party for my son recently, and at least one person there had a cold. He didn’t mention it to me, but he shook my hand, was giving out hugs, etc.
This person knows we just got better from a awful flu-like virus about a week ago.
What were they thinking? It just isn’t that important to go to a party. We’re going to get sick. It’s almost...

Sites
I looked into a bunch of sites for blog-like services and it came down to Weebly and Tumblr. I originally passed over Tumblr because the one line summary of it I read didn’t sound like what I wanted (perhaps too focused on multimedia). Weebly is nice, but their editor requires Flash which as we all know, sucks. Aside from requiring flash, the editor is confusing as well but that is a...
Ask Obama →
That’s what they should have titled this page, but oh well. So far Obama is doing a fantastic job of sticking to his (to me) fantastically important promise to use technology to open up government.
EDIT: Site is already closed — I didn’t realize it was time limited.

Wish I could be there but it doesn’t seem terribly feasible at the moment.
Bloggy
My wife’s friend just had a baby http://crabbyappleseed.blogspot.com/2008/12/grace-e.html and it reminds me of how shocked I was as we were leaving the hospital with our first that, by damn they’re going to let us just walk out the door with this thing!
